Riyadh Syria opposition meeting against Vienna declaration

TEHRAN, Nov. 30 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for African-American Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian called Syrian opposition meeting in Saudi Arabia contrary to Vienna Joint Statement.

Criticizing the Syrian opposition meeting in Saudi Arabia, Amir-Abdollahian said such reckless measures are evaluated as counterproductive.

"Based on Vienna Declaration, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Syria Staffan de Mistura is responsible to act with pervasive consultation to determine the list of Syrian opposition groups," Amir-Abdollahian said, underlining that Tehran rejects any act out of the Joint Statement.

Amir Abdollahian said Saudi Arabia, in the last five years, has failed to play a positive and constructive role in resolving Syrian crises.

Syrian armed opposition groups are invited to a meeting in Riyadh next month to bring a 'unified front' ahead of the Vienna talks.
